Priyanka Chopra wins People's choice award

She’s not only the first Indian, but the first South Asian actress to win People’s Choice Award in the US.

Priyanka Chopra has made India proud on many occasions, but this time the Indian beauty has given all the South Asian countries a reason to cheer. When our ‘desi girl’ lifted the People’s Choice Award for ‘Favourite Actress In A New TV Series’, she became not only the first Indian but also the first Asian to bag this prestigious honour. It was a big moment for Priyanka as she was awarded for her lead role in US thriller ‘Quantico’ where she plays Alex Parrish, an FBI agent, who has been accused of a terrorist attack. The series, which marked her foray as an international actress, though garnered lukewarm response from the audiences, won her many accolades as an actor. So much so that she emerged favourite among actresses like Emma Roberts, Jamie Lee Curtis, Lea Michele and Marcia Gay Harden who were also nominated for the category.

The 33-year-old actress tweeted an image of herself after Hollywood actor Vin Diesel presented her with the award, thanking fans for voting for her and said she was "fortunate”. “I am so fortunate! Thank you to everyone who voted for me at the #PCAs! My #PCManiacs-I am nothing without you! Big love,” she posted. As soon as the news of PC winning the award broke, the social networking sites were flooded with congratulatory messages from her fans, well wishers and other celebs.

The contemporaries of the former Miss World were the first ones to congratulate her. While Anushka Sharma was “So proud of you! Keep rocking yaow!!” Nimrat Kaur wrote: “BRILLIANT and so incredibly well deserved! So so proud of this tigress!! A first of many more to go.” Sunny Leone advised the actress to “Party hard tonight”. Veteran actor Rishi Kapoor too congratulated PC by posting: “Go get them all! Proud of you congratulations!” The messages kept on pouring in both from Indian and international shores.

This winner of Miss World pageant in 2000, Priyanka has charmed millions of people with her acting skills. This Daddy’s Little Girl (as her tattoo goes) won accolades when she forayed as an international singer and collaborated with ‘Pitbull’ and ‘The Chainsmokers’ for her singles. Her fans can be found in every country. Be it her movies, music, and now her series, PC’s work has always been appreciated worldwide. In her thanking speech she said to the audience, “I would like to thank all those who voted for ‘Quantico’. My first year in America… and to come to another country and to get this kind of acceptance is, I guess, what America is all about. So, thank you all for accepting me…” No doubt America loves our ‘desi’ girl.
