Ways to prevent dark circles: From AHA peels to homemade treatments
Now that the party season is on your late nights and lack of sleep can take a major toll on your skin. For some it’s a hereditary problem while for the rest it’s a temporary issue.
The skin around the eye is extremely delicate and dark circles are formed due to the oxidizing of haemoglobin which begins in the capillaries around the eyes.
As told by Mumbai based skin expert Dr Jamuna Pai, that correction of one’s lifestyle pattern holds prime importance. Late nights, erratic working hours, disturbed sleep patterns and stress can lead to swelling under the eye causing dark circles. So you should relax as much as you can to directly avoid such problems or you can use ointments rich in Kojic acid, lactic acid, arbutin at night and layer it with good amount of moisturizer.
As easy as it sounds to correct one’s lifestyle, of course it does get difficult. So start by seeking a professional opinion and go for AHA peels. Dr Pai explains that there are various AHA peels which are effective in rejuvenating skin around the eyes by exfoliating damaged upper layers of skin to reveal new healthier skin thus by reducing dark circles. She further say’s, “that to get the best result one needs to repeat this treatment atleast every 4-6 weeks”.
She also suggest , “that if you are not confident of going for peels there are various creams available in the market which consist of lightening agents like vitamin c, kojic acid, arbutin, azelic acid which help you reduce your dark circles over night”. If you prefer the old school way then as suggested by Dr Pai, you can use chilled slice of cucumber or chilled raw potato slice under your eyes and keep for 15 mintues. “Cotton bal dipped in rose water and kept under the eye for 10-12 minutes can be a good home remedy to cure dark circles”, say’s Dr Pai.
