Secret celebrity weddings which took us by surprise
While Preity Zinta and Urmila are the recent beauties to tie the knot secretly, there are others too who did the same in Hollywood and Bollywood.
The month has started with few happy surprises. Two pretty divas of Hindi cinema took everyone by surprise when they announced their secret wedding to their respective beaus. Last week Urmila Matondkar got married to her boyfriend Mohsin Akhtar Mir in such a hush hush manner that no paparazzi could get hold of any exclusive pictures of the newly wed. Urmila’s secret wedding reminded us of a similar Bollywood wedding that took place a few days ago – that of Preity Zinta and her US-based fiancé Gene Goodenough. The wedding took place in Los Angeles recently. Confirmation of Preity's marriage came via a congratulatory message by veteran actor Kabir Bedi's tweet. He tweeted: "Huge congrats my friend @realpreityzinta on your marriage to Gene in Los Angeles, City of Angels.” But these two Bollywood beauties are not the only ones to wed in secrecy. Naina Bachchan and Kunal Kapoor
The 'Rang De Basanti' actor married actor Amitabh Bachchan’s niece at a secret ceremony in Seychelles in February 2015. While they were dating for two years, the duo married in the presence of their families.A grand reception was organised in Mumbai for industry friends.
Rani Mukherji and Aditya Chopra
While everybody in the Indian film industry knew about their affair, the news was never publicised. Aditya Chopra being such a media-shy man, it was but obvious that he chose to keep his personal life personal. The lovebirds surprised everyone by announcing that they tied the knot on April 21, 2014 in Italy. The couple is a proud parents of a baby girl now.
Maanyata and Sanjay Dutt
The couple wed in 2008 in a private ceremony in Goa after being in a relationship for two years. Sanju considers her his pillar of strength, especially after Maanyata took care of his household and their twins during his prison time for 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts. The couple were every bit resplendent with joy when Sanjay came out of prison recently after completing his term.
Priya Runchal and John Abraham
Model-turned-actor John Abraham dated Bipasha Basu and their relationship continued for nine years. However, Bips and John had a sudden break-up after Priya Runchal came into his life, and if sources are to be believed his wedding to Priya happened in 2014 in the US. The world came to know of it only when he tweeted, “Wishing you and your loved ones a blessed 2014! May this year bring you love, good fortune and joy. Love, John and Priya Abraham”.
Sridevi and Boney Kapoor
She broke many hearts with the news of her secret wedding to producer Boney Kapoor, but at the same time Sridevi was also called a home-breaker as Boney was already married. The duo have two daughters now – Jahnvi and Khushi. Boney has two children from his first wife – Arjun and Anshula.
Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux
The 'Friends' star Jennifer Aniston married her longtime boyfriend Justin Theroux at their LA home in a secret ceremony that took the media and many of the couple's guests by surprise. The couple, who have been dating for four years, exchanged vows in front of some 70 family members and friends at their Bel-Air home. Representatives of the couple did not return requests for comment. But a celebrity news website posted photos of a stage, an outdoor dance floor, dining tables and a large cake being brought into the house that Aniston and Theroux share in Bel-Air, a posh hilltop neighborhood of Los Angeles.
Mary-Kate Olsen and Olivier Sarkozy
Mary-Kate Olsen, 29, married her longtime boyfriend, French banker Olivier Sarkozy, 46, lasy year in New York City. The former ‘Full House’ star and twin sister of Ashley Olsen and her husband, who is former French President Nicolas Sarkozy's half-brother, tied the knot at a private home in Manhattan in front of some 50 guests.
Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden
Cameron Diaz went officially off the market after tying the knot with rock star Benji Madden at their Beverly Hills mansion in January this year. The ‘There’s Something About Mary’ actress and former ‘Good Charlotte’ star Benji wed following an eight month courtship. “We couldn't be happier to begin our new journey together surrounded by our closest family and friends,” the couple said in a statement. In attendance were Reese Witherspoon, Drew Barrymore and Gwyneth Paltrow as well as Diaz's new brother-in-law, Benji's twin Joel and his wife Nicole Richie.
Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher
Their wedding celebrations took place at The Secret Garden at Parrish Ranch in Oak Glen, California, a secluded spot surrounded by apple orchards, ponds and mountain views on Fouth of July on 2015. Although it was not their official wedding day, the couple treated it as such and both Mila and the couple's nine-month-old daughter, Wyatt, wore white. The stars began dating in 2012, got engaged in February 2014 and welcomed daughter Wyatt Isabelle in October. This is a first marriage for Mila and a second for Ashton, who wed Demi Moore in 2005. The couple separated in November 2011 and Ashton filed for divorce a year later.
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt
The lovebirds married in an intimate ceremony in the south of France, attended by only close family members. The wedding was, by all accounts, a low-key event at the family’s vineyard property Château Miraval that was planned by the couple’s six children. Pax made the cake. Zahara and Vivienne were flower girls. Shiloh and Knox were ring bearers. Maddox and Pax walked Jolie down the aisle. The kids helped write the marital vows. The children’s drawings even adorned Jolie’s Versace wedding gown.
